Frank Shorter was a Yale graduate and medical school student. For years he ran in his spare time while pursuing a traditional career path. But eventually he gave up med school so he could train more. His work paid off; in 1972 at the Munich Olympics, he was the first American to win the marathon in 64 years.

Bill Rodgers was a chain-smoking motorcycle-loving 20-something who spent his free time hanging out in Boston bars with his brother and childhood friends. Then someone stole his motorcycle. Then he was fired from his entry-level job for trying to unionize employees. Feeling adrift, he threw himself into running.

The son of Cuban exiles, Alberto Salazar started breaking records at age 16. His father in particular was unhappy with life in America. To please him, Alberto ran and ran. At age 22 he predicted that he would finish his debut marathon in under 2 hours and 10 minutes – and succeeded.

Congratulations to Barbara & Nick Lavacca on the birth of their son; Nicholas Jon Lavacca was born weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces on 5/22/10.Mother and child are doing well.

Congratulations, Nick & Barbara are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Gianna Lavacca, she was born on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 9:20 PM weighing in at a healthy 6 pounds 6 ounces (two weeks early). All are doing fine!

Celine & Jeremy Johnson have given their daughter Oceana a new baby sister, Sierra was born @ 8:08pm on the 12^th. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces. Everyone is great and Oceana is looking forward to seeing her little sister. WS congratulations to all!

Congratulations , Steve & Sharon Walker are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Katherine Emily Walker, was born April 16, 2007 at 6:40pm and weighs 6lbs 2oz. All are doing just fine!

The Nelson's announce the birth of their baby girl, "Summer Kaelyn Nelson" officially arrived @ 1:04 PM Saturday afternoon June 17th, 2006. She was 7 pounds 15 ounces and 21 inches long. Father, Mother & Daughter immediately swept off to the nearest pub for a cold Beck's beer. Congratulations!

Congratulations to new parents: Eitan and Sophie Tabak are the proud parents of new daughter Sarah. The baby was born at 7 pounds 1 ounce at 7:30 AM this morning 10/29/05. Mom, Father and baby are doing fine.

Mike and Hallie Anderson are proud to announce the birth of their second daughter Emilia Jane on August 12, 2005. Emilia was 6 lbs. 10 oz. and 18.5 inches long.

Eve and Stephane Bois are proud to announce the birth of their daughter; Adèle Flynn Bois, born Monday May 16th 2005 @ 4:39 PM. She's a healthy girl ( 5 pounds 15 ounces & 20inches tall) it's not known yet if she has the big calves of her father! The family is resting.

Celine and Jeremy announce the birth of their little girl Oceana Chloe Johnson. She was born Friday April 15 at 4:13pm. Oceana weighs 6 pounds 14 ounces. All are doing great and will be out training in the park soon!

The Berman's are proud to announce the birth of their son Judah, born on October 25, 2004, weighing 8.8lbs. All are doing very well & were seen running in Central Park Sunday. Baby Judah is not doing any speed work just yet!

Victorien & Chris Madsen are the proud parents of daughter Eva Louise Madsen, born November 6th, 2003. Both parents are discovering all the little wonders in the world!

Ray and Lisa Brown present their new son Alexander Cruz Brown, born Aug. 22nd, 2003, weighing in at 6lb, 10 oz, 19.1/2" long. All are doing well.

Hallie and Mike Anderson had a healthy baby girl (Caroline Grace Anderson) on Saturday, September 13th. "Cara" weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces and 19 inches long.

Congratulations to Beth G & Mike G for the birth of Baby G (Katie) at 7 pounds. Everybody is happy and healthy. She was born on Friday, February 7th!
